About me as a teacher

Born and raised in Malaysia, my early training began with a mix of traditional and contemporary South-east Asian dance and theatre. Since then, I have studied contemporary performance in Europe and North America with a variety of teachers and have, along the way, developed a somatic approach to interdisciplinary performance deeply influenced by my lifelong studies in Chinese martial arts, Qigong and Daoism. I am also deeply committed to the task of understanding and nurturing an inclusive space that acknowledges the existence of power asymmetries and hegemonic structures in and around ALL bodies. I don’t know everything, but I am invested in learning.

Fitzmaurice Voicework®

I am a certified teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework® (FV), a Lead Trainer in the Fitzmaurice Institute. FV is a somatic approach to voice that explores the dynamics between body, breath, voice, the imagination, language, and presence. While FV is primarily an approach to voice work, I have been developing a pedagogy and exploration of movement based on the FV principles of Destructuring and Restructuring. Destructuring is a series of strategies and tools that bring awareness to habitual patterns of tension and invites release into more sensation. Restructuring brings the awareness of one’s whole self into relationship with others through efficient use of breath, energy and body mechanics.
