Touch Me Hold Me Let Me Go - A Durational Practice

An inquiry

into what would happen if a group of people were practicing the algorithm in all the different ways:

to dance with

to sing with

to communicate needs

to communicate boundaries

What would happen to the space?

What would happen to the bodies activating the space over time?

What would happen to bodies entering into this space?

What would happen to time?

This inquiry first began in 2019, during the second year of my 3-year residency at Toronto’s Dancemakers Centre for Creation. This inquiry got interrupted by Covid. I am now pursuing this inquiry through a number of processes:

February-March 2023: Re/Public - a collaboration with Malaysian choreographer Lee Renxin looking into collective embodiment in public spaces. At Five Arts Centre, Kuala Lumpur

June 2023 - May 2024 Research and creation of a group work The Territory Between Us as part of my activities as Artist-in-Residence at the Scotiabank Dance Centre 2024-25.
